A good family friend and co-worker was diagnosed with cancer back in March. His doctor gave him 6 months to live. I can’t even begin to imagine how he felt after receiving that news. I remember when we found out - you think it’s a bad dream. Things like this don’t happen to healthy, successful, young (only 42) people!!
He and his wife came to Houston for treatment at M.D. Anderson. The treatment was intense and severe. It caused him to get sores all over his face and body, in his ears and mouth; like burns. I remember talking to him on the phone and holding back tears as he shared with me his pain and what he was going through. I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy much less someone I care for.
Despite all of this, something in him changed. He decided to fight. His life was worth fighting for. His friends bought him a pair of boxing gloves that they all signed - supporting and believing and praying and fighting with him. I had the privilege of signing them today right after he shared an unbelievable doctor’s report with me.
He is back in Houston for more tests and appointments. Last night, he received amazing news. The cancer has not spread. Not just that but the doctor said his bones look stronger than before. (his type of cancer affects his bones and by the time they found it, it had already metastasized to the bone) Considering 4 months ago they had given him 6 months to live … this news is HUGE. GOD IS SO GOOD.
Yes, the medication and diet contributed but the doctor also said that a huge factor that contributes to healing is…
Surrounding yourself with faith-filled people who are encouraging you and speaking life-giving words over you. People who are fighting with you.
I think this truth applies to all areas of life. Whether you are struggling with a life-and-death disease like cancer or you are going through a break-up or loss of loved one, whatever your “cancer” is right now - Surround yourself with faith-filled people who are encouraging you and speak life-giving words over you!!!
Proverbs 18:21
